Hiring Students and Free Interns for your startup
Yes, as a founder, you are spread too thin and strapped for cash so the prospect of hiring a FREE intern or student may be so enticing but here are a few things to keep in mind before you do that:
1. In US it is NOT legal to have a FREE intern if you have a for-profit business anymore. So tread carefully!
2. Having a paid, part-time professional who is well trained and experienced is far better than an untrained person for free. At this stage of business, you want someone who can manage themselves and produce work that will need less back and forth.
3.. Resource management is one of the hardest tasks for corporates so here you are, a solo founder or maybe a small team that is looking to expand your user base, get funding and do marketing. Now add resource management on top of that, think, does it save you time to have a free resource?
4. Quality over quantity ALWAYS! Remember, your business is at stake. Can this resource produce work that will showcase the quality of the business?
I wish I had a better response but as a startup founder, you have to be laser-focused on the one thing that will grow your business. Get experienced and paid professionals! Get funding for them and see how your business grows in magnitudes.
